Undone’ in the Presence of God

Blog >> From Pastor Mark

I’m sure you’ve all heard the comments…”the service was too long!”;…”I don’t like the music”;…”we don’t sing enough hymns”;…”we don’t sing enough praise songs”;…”the worship (more often than not, meaning the music) was better last week”  I know you’ve heard most, if not all, of these, because I’ve heard them…I’m even guilty of saying things like these.  How about this one…”I didn’t get anything out of worship today.”  Good!  That’s the way God want’s it!  I’m not saying we don’t receive a blessing by being in God’s presence, of course we do.  The point I’m making here is that too often (MUCH too often), we end up making worship about US, NOT GOD.  We end up focusing on US, NOT GOD.  Too often the attention placed on US, NOT GOD.

God wants our UNDIVIDED ATTENTION when we worship, both privately and corporately.  And, God is calling me to do a better job of leading you to be more attentive to Him as we worship together.  I’d like you to read the lyrics to a new song we will be introducing to you soon:

Here in Your Presence

…Found in Your Hands fullness of joy,

Every fear suddenly wiped away, here in Your presence;

All of my gains now fade away,

Every crown, no longer on display, here in Your presence.

Heaven is trembling in awe of Your wonder,

Kings in their kingdoms are standing amazed.

Here in Your presence, we are undone,

Here in Your presence, Heaven and earth become one;

Here in Your presence, all things are new,

Here in Your presence, everything bows before You.

I want to challenge each of you.  As you pray, ask God to lead you to become more undone when you worship.  What do I mean by being undone?  Isaiah gives us a perfect example.  In Isaiah 6:1-5, we read about Isaiah’s proclamation of humility before God…”Woe is me, for I am undone!  Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.”

When Isaiah found himself in the presence of God, he became undone, totally broken.  Isaiah realized both God’s GREATNESS, and his own WEAKNESS.  Then, God was able to strip him apart, and put him back together as a stronger, more attentive worshipper!  I believe THAT’S how God wants us to approach Him as we worship.

I’m convinced God intends for this body of believers, we call Berean, to TRULY see Him as He is, to TRULY see us as we are, to TRULY recognize the difference, by becoming undone, and then worship Him in spirit and truth.

Only by His Grace,

Pastor Mark
